Swiss Batterytech startup BTRY has received €153,000 investment from Venture Kick to advance its one-minute charging solid-state battery.

CEO Dr Moritz Futscher and CTO Dr Abdessalem Aribia founded the company together with Dr Yaroslav Romanyuk as a scientific advisor in 2023 as a spin-off of Empa and ETH Zurich.

Lithium-ion batteries are widely used but have limitations, such as slow charging and temperature sensitivity. BTRY’s solid-state battery uses thin-film cells stacked on top of each other with semiconductor fabrication methods.

This high-precision, solvent-free manufacturing method enables a one-minute charging battery that offers reliable operation in extreme temperatures, enhancing commercial viability and environmental sustainability.

BTRY's first application is focused on the IoT market, targeting batteries for remote sensors. It also aims to enter high-end medical and consumer electronics.

“Venture Kick has supported us from early on in our journey,” saidc CEO Moritz Futscher.

“The guidance has been instrumental for our growth, helping us transition from a research-based environment to becoming a successful venture. We are looking forward to continuing this partnership.”

In preparation for a seed funding round targeted for Q3 2025, the company will utilise this funding to de-risk the investment for potential backers. This includes demonstrating scalability through pilot production on dedicated lines, thus proving the ability to manufacture batteries at a larger volume.
